Chef Tan's Chowbus page showed Wednesday hours of 11:00 AM-9:15 PM and a lunch menu. Order L14 Mapo Tofu, L10 Eggplant W.Garlic Sauce, and L9 Vegetarian String Beans at $11.99 each. The dinner menu did not open, and the page lists pickup only.
South Lions lists Shrimp Dumpling (4pc) at $6.95 and Jumbo Shrimp Shui Mai (4pc) at $8.95, and is open from 11:00 AM. South of the Clouds, at 313 Grove St, is the Yunnan alternative: Stri Fried Rice Noodle at $14.99 and Signature Yunnan Crossing Bridge at $21.99.
Dun Huang's location page lists 11:00 AM-9:30 PM daily at 180 River Dr. On Grubhub, N1 Classic Beef Noodles (Clear Broth) is $15.35 and N6 Spicy Oil Spill Noodle is $14.95. Grubhub says those prices may be lower in the store.
Chef Tan's Chowbus ordering page lists a Sichuan lunch menu at 558 Washington Blvd: mapo tofu, garlic-sauce eggplant, dry-fried string beans, cumin, and twice-cooked pork. It is the Sichuan pick in this guide. The dinner Online Menu tab did not open on the check, so use the lunch prices below and call before a dinner visit.
Build an order. From the lunch menu, order L14 Mapo Tofu, L10 Eggplant W.Garlic Sauce, and L9 Vegetarian String Beans, all listed at $11.99. L8 Spicy & Sour Shredded Potatoes is also $11.99. Several other lines, including Kung Pao and cumin, are marked with a plus sign, so those prices can change with the protein.
Before you go. Chowbus showed Wednesday hours of 11:00 AM-9:15 PM and marked the store closed when checked after that time on 2026-09-30, with the next pickup slot on Thursday. Other weekdays were not listed on that view. The page offers pickup and does not list delivery. No reservation page opened.

Dun Huang Noodles' own location page describes Lanzhou hand-pulled noodles and lists 180 River Dr, Jersey City, NJ 07310. The priced menu read today is on Grubhub, not on the operator site: clear-broth beef noodles, spicy oil-spill noodles, and pork and cabbage dumplings. Choose it when the meal is a noodle bowl rather than dim sum or Sichuan lunch.
Build an order. Order N1 Classic Beef Noodles (Clear Broth) or N1 Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles (Spicy), then add N6 Spicy Oil Spill Noodle or a plate of Pork & Chinese Cabbage Dumpling (Dine In 8). Vegetable dishes on the same Grubhub menu include Cucumber Salad (Spicy) and Eggplant W. Special Sauce.
Before you go. The operator location page lists 11:00 AM-9:30 PM every day, with Friday written on its own line at the same hours. Grubhub was taking a Thursday preorder when checked after those hours on 2026-09-30. A March 4, 2024 Jersey Digs article placed the kitchen at 172 River Drive inside The Beach in Newport; use 180 River Dr from the operator page unless the restaurant tells you otherwise. South of the Clouds publishes a Jersey City page at 313 Grove St and describes Yunnan cooking. The order page lists a vegetarian stir-fried rice noodle, beef on sticks, and a signature crossing-the-bridge rice noodle. It is the Yunnan pick, not a Sichuan kitchen and not a dim sum house.
Build an order. Order the menu's Stri Fried Rice Noodle, which the same line says is a vegetarian stir-fry that includes eggs, with meat added only if you choose it. Add Beef on Sticks if you want the mildly spicy skewer, or Signature Yunnan Crossing Bridge for the chicken broth with ribeye, pork, fish, tofu skin, and bean sprouts.
Before you go. The operator site lists 11:00 AM-9:30 PM every day and an order page with Pickup and Delivery. It does not say whether there is table service. DoorDash labels a Jersey City store of this name a virtual brand and shows the same three prices; do not treat that label as a closed sign, and do not assume a dining room from it either. South Lions Dim Sum & Tea publishes 105 Greene St, Jersey City, NJ 07302 and a menu with shrimp dumplings, shrimp shui mai, and a mushroom bun, plus mapo tofu and braised beef noodle soup. It is the dim sum pick. No separate dim sum hour is published; the restaurant hours are the hours below.
Build an order. Start with Shrimp Dumpling (4pc) and Jumbo Shrimp Shui Mai (4pc), then add the mushroom bean paste bun or Fried Bean Curd w. Mixed Mushroom if you want a meatless plate. Braised Beef Stew Noodle Soup is on the same ordering page if the table wants a noodle bowl after the steamers.

Lucky Star publishes 644 Newark Ave and describes itself as a family Chinese restaurant in the Journal Square area. The ordering menu runs from shu mai and shrimp dim sum to lo mein, chow fun, and combination plates. Use it for dumplings or a familiar Chinese-American order, not for a Yunnan or Lanzhou meal.
Build an order. Order Shu Mai (10), Shrimp Dim Sum (8), and Vegetable Dumpling (8) if the table wants small plates. Fried Meat Dumpling (8) and Steamed Meat Dumpling (8) are also on the appetizer list at the same $8.95. Add a noodle or a rice plate from the longer menu if you want a full dinner.

China Panda publishes 741 West Side Ave and says it is near Lincoln Park and Saint Peter's University. The MenuFy order page lists dumplings, wonton, steamed broccoli, and mixed vegetables with bean curd, alongside lo mein and combination plates. It is the West Side pick, away from Journal Square and the waterfront.

Garden State publishes 287 Central Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07307, in the Heights ZIP. Its ordering menu is a Chinese-American list of lo mein, chow mein, and dinner combinations, and it also has a Spanish Food heading. It is the Central Avenue pick, not a dim sum house and not the Newport Sichuan kitchen.
Build an order. The dinner combinations are served with pork fried rice and an egg roll. DC2 Hunan Chicken, DC10 General Tso's Chicken, and DC3 Chicken Lo Mein are each $11.00 on that list. A Spanish Food heading is on the same menu; no priced Spanish dish was captured on the check, so ask if that is what you want.

Newport waterfront (Washington Boulevard and River Drive)
Wikipedia describes Newport as a waterfront community in Downtown Jersey City, with its own PATH and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stations, and lists The Beach among its buildings. Chef Tan publishes 558 Washington Blvd and Dun Huang Noodles publishes 180 River Dr, both ZIP 07310. A March 4, 2024 Jersey Digs article placed Dun Huang in Newport at 172 River Drive; the operator page now lists 180.
Wikivoyage describes historic downtown Jersey City, including Grove Street, as the brownstone area west of the waterfront. South of the Clouds publishes 313 Grove St and South Lions publishes 105 Greene St, both ZIP 07302. This is a separate trip from Journal Square and from the Newport waterfront.
Wikipedia describes Journal Square as a business district and transportation hub in Jersey City, with Newark Avenue running through it. Lucky Star publishes 644 Newark Ave and calls the block the Journal Square area. Journal Square PATH is a different station from Newport PATH.
Wikipedia says The Heights uses ZIP 07307 and that Central Avenue is one of Jersey City's neighborhood shopping districts. Wikivoyage places the Heights atop the Palisades. Garden State publishes 287 Central Ave in 07307, which is not a waterfront walk from Newport.
Wikipedia describes the West Side as the area along West Side Avenue, a main shopping street, and places Lincoln Park and Saint Peter's University along it. China Panda publishes 741 West Side Ave and says it is near Lincoln Park and Saint Peter's University. It is not Journal Square and not the Newport waterfront.
Wikipedia's Chinatowns in the United States page does not list a Jersey City Chinatown. Its New Jersey entries are Belleville, Bradley Beach, Newark, and Princeton. Edison is named later on that page as a New York-area Chinese enclave, and it is a different city. In Jersey City, the restaurants in this guide are in Newport, downtown Grove and Greene Streets, Journal Square, Central Avenue in the Heights, and West Side Avenue.
Where can I get dim sum in Jersey City?

No other Sichuan kitchen in this guide had a readable operator menu.
Which of these Jersey City Chinese restaurants deliver?
On 2026-09-30: Lucky Star's own ordering page lists delivery at about 30 minutes. South of the Clouds lists delivery on its order page and does not name a carrier. South Lions says DoorDash fulfills delivery. Dun Huang Noodles is on Grubhub, which lists a $0.49 delivery fee and a 15% service fee capped at $7.50. Chef Tan's Chowbus page is pickup only. Garden State's ordering page lists no delivery. China Panda's homepage says carryout or delivery, but its order page did not show a delivery control.
Is Newport the same trip as Journal Square for Chinese food?
No. Wikipedia places Newport on the Hudson waterfront in Downtown Jersey City, with its own PATH station, and Journal Square as a separate business district and PATH hub. Chef Tan and Dun Huang Noodles are on Washington Boulevard and River Drive in ZIP 07310. Lucky Star is at 644 Newark Ave in Journal Square, ZIP 07306. Central Avenue in the Heights and West Side Avenue are different trips again.

Mala A Sichuan flavor pairing the tingling numbness of Sichuan pepper with chili heat; the name means numbing and spicy.
Sichuan peppercorn The dried husk of a Zanthoxylum berry that gives Sichuan dishes a citrusy scent and a tingling, numbing buzz; it is not a true pepper.
Doubanjiang A salty, savory fermented paste of broad beans, usually with chili, that anchors many Sichuan dishes; the Pixian version is the most renowned.
Guotie (potstickers) Pan-fried dumplings browned on one side, then steamed with a little water under a lid; 'potsticker' is the English form of guotie.
Baozi A yeast-leavened bun with a filling, most often steamed; unfilled steamed buns are called mantou.
