Useful context. Honest limits.

How we choose, describe and illustrate the food in this guide.

What the collection is

An editorial introduction to dishes and regional food traditions. Selection favors a useful mix of formats, flavors and cooking methods. The order of dishes is not a quality ranking. “What to look for” offers an entry point for curiosity, not a scorecard claiming that every variation is wrong.

Sources you can follow

Dish and regional pages link to tourism or government cultural references, firsthand cooking accounts and published recipes. These support background and common preparation details. We write our own summaries and distinguish editorial ordering suggestions from sourced historical or ingredient claims.

The collection was reviewed on September 27, 2026. Links are references, not endorsements of every statement on the destination page. Ingredients and preparation can differ from the version a source describes.

Restaurant guides

Our Austin guide selects restaurants for distinct menus, geographic usefulness and current operator evidence. Its suggestions are editorial, not tasting reviews or quality scores. Exact branches, price channels and material service constraints are checked separately; each profile links its sources. We hold candidates where current availability is unclear and revisit dated facts as the guide is maintained.

Regional labels are starting points

Some pages cover a province; others introduce a city or a wider region. The current eight pages are not the traditional “eight great cuisines” taxonomy. We explain narrow coverage where it matters and will add detail as the collection grows.

All imagery is illustrated

Our food images are AI-generated illustrations made on local hardware. They are not photographs of a restaurant, a specific chef’s work or a meal we ate. They convey a possible presentation; real dishes vary. We keep model, prompt, seed, license and file provenance in the project records.

No dietary guarantees

Heat labels are broad orientation. We do not certify allergen, vegetarian, vegan, halal or other dietary suitability. Ask the restaurant about ingredients and preparation whenever that affects your order.

Corrections and future coverage

This is an early collection, and gaps are visible by design. Dedicated Hunan, Fujian and Jiangsu dish entries are still being researched. Austin is our first city guide, with eleven researched restaurants and individual source-check dates. More city coverage and translated editions will need their own evidence and review.
