Dumplings and a vegetarian dinner in one Chinatown walk

Split the evening in two: an early dumpling order on Wentworth (boiled or pan-fried), then walk to China Place for Kung Pao Tofu and Spicy Dumplings at Veggie House. Veggie House is closed on Tuesday.

MingHin Cuisine (Chinatown)

All-day dim sum for a group

Archer Avenue, Chinatown

2168 S Archer Ave, Chicago, IL 60616312-808-1999

MingHin's Chinatown branch serves its dim sum menu all day, so you can eat dim sum at 9 a.m. on a weekday or at 8 p.m. on a Saturday. It is the pick for a table of four to eight who want to order 8 to 12 small plates and share.

Build an order. Start with MingHin's Shrimp Dumpling, Siu Mai and Baked BBQ Pork Bun, add Pan Fried Turnip Cake and a Shrimp Crepe (rice noodle roll), and finish with Puffy Egg Custard Tart. The menu also has a Vegetables and BBQ section (Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce, Roast Duck) that works as the plates that fill out the table.

Before you go. The locations page lists Chinatown as open 365 days: Mon-Fri 9am to midnight, Sat-Sun 8am to midnight, with all-day dim sum. Reservations are not required but the site recommends them; book on the reservations page. The weekday 2:30-5pm happy hour on the site excludes the Chinatown branch. Online ordering hours for this branch run 9:00 AM-11:45 PM (Sat-Sun from 8:00 AM).

Delivery: direct The operator's own ordering page for the Chinatown branch (via its Order Online link) lists delivery with a $15.00 delivery minimum and a delivery fee starting at $4.00 across two delivery zones.

Qing Xiang Yuan Dumplings (Chinatown)

Handmade dumplings, northern style

S Wentworth Ave, Chinatown

2002 S Wentworth Ave Ste 103, Chicago, IL 60616312-799-1118

QXY makes dumplings by hand and sells them as the whole meal: pick a filling, pick boiled, steamed or pan-fried, share three or four orders. It sits on S Wentworth Ave in Chinatown, so it pairs with a walk through the neighborhood.

Build an order. For two people, order one pork filling (Kurobuta Pork and Cabbage), one lamb filling (Lamb and Dill or Lamb and Coriander) and one seafood or vegetable filling (Shrimp, Kurobuta Pork and Leek, or Tofu, Cabbage, Vermicelli and Wood Ear Mushroom). Order the pan-fried version of one filling for a crisp contrast. Add BBQ or an appetizer only if the group is more than three.

Before you go. Hours are listed inconsistently: the home page shows 11:30 AM-9:00 PM daily, the FAQ shows 10:00 PM Fri-Sat, so confirm by phone or Instagram before a late visit. Reservations are taken through the website only, not by phone or for the same day, with 2 tables open per 90 minutes. The FAQ says BYOB is allowed at the Chinatown location Mon-Thu with limits, and that the restaurant does not deliver. Takeout is ordered online.

Pickup only The operator FAQ answers 'Do you deliver?' with 'No. We do not deliver due to food quality control'; takeout is ordered at store.qxydumpling.com.
